This experiment uses a sealed glass sphere filled with tungsten carbide nanoparticles and driven by an electric field around 270 volts. Tungsten carbide is electrically conductive and extremely stable, allowing the particles to respond strongly to the applied field without breaking down or burning. When energized, the particles become charged and begin moving through the sphere rather than remaining settled.
