⚾️On August 20, 1989 Chicago’s Jerome Walton loops a soft one-hopper off Houston’s Mike Scott and beats out the throw by Rafael Ramírez for an infield single, extending his hit streak to 30 games. Walton, the eventual NL Rookie Of The Year, sets the modern day Cubs hit streak record with the single. The Cubs would fall to the Astros 8-4 at the Astrodome, marking a sweep by Houston.
