Man with tā moko denied entry for a kai On September 26, 2025, Caleb Pokai, a 24-year-old Māori man, was denied entry to the Burleigh Pavilion on the Gold Coast due to his traditional facial tattoo, known as tā moko. Pokai had planned to surprise a friend for their birthday at The Tropic restaurant, part of the venue, but was stopped by security upon arrival.
