Emergency department visits for tick bites are at their highest levels this summer since 2019, according to the CDC. In the Northeast, black-legged, lone star, and American dog ticks are active and capable of transmitting serious illnesses, including Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and a red meat allergy known as Alpha-gal syndrome.
