The long-term solutions to reduce crime anywhere — including our city — are better schools, more job opportunities, more mental health resources, more Memphis police officers who are hired locally and on the beat full-time, and real law enforcement partnerships with agencies that actually know policework. The National Guard doesn’t address any of that. It’s a political stunt that risks hurting our city’s image, and much worse, becoming a cover for ICE to come into Memphis and target hardworking
